LOMBARDS, Beneventum. Grimoald III, 788-806. Tremissis (Gold, 17 mm, 1.30 g, 7 h), struck in the name of Charlemagne, as King of the Lombards (774-814), 788-792. GRIMVALDC Crowned, draped and cuirassed bust of Grimoald III facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand. Rev. DOMS CAR•RX / ς - R / VICΔ Cross potent; above, small pelleted cross. CNI XVIII, p. 155, 8. Grierson/Blackburn 1098. Very rare. Lightly toned and with a lovely facing portrait. Minor areas of weakness and with tiny edge cracks, otherwise, good very fine.
